Obama Describes Fort Hood Killings as 'Incomprehensible' at Memorial

President Barack Obama gave a speech at Tuesday's Fort Hood Memorial in Texas

Earlier today in Fort Hood, Texas, President Barack Obama gave a heartfelt speech to those in attendance at the Fort Hood Memorial who were mourning the losses of the 13 individuals who were tragically killed last Thursday by alleged Fort Hood gunman and former Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan. According to CNN.com, President Obama described the acts that were committed as ‘incomprehensible slayings'.Tuesday's Fort Hood Memorial service was open to the public and it was attended by President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, soldiers and families of the 13 people who were killed in the attack, among thousands of others. CNN.com is projecting that the size of the crowd included an estimated 15,000 spectators who arrived to commemorate the lives of those whose lives were tragically taken.During his speech to the crowd in attendance at the service, President Obama said, "This is a time of war. And yet these Americans did not die on a foreign field of battle. They were killed here, on American soil, in the heart of this great American community. It is this fact that makes the tragedy even more painful and even more incomprehensible."The President addressed the families of the 12 soldiers and one civilian who were shot and killed by the Fort Hood gunman and told them that their loved ones would, "Live on through the life of our nation."
