Sgt. Kimberly Munley Reportedly Doing Well, to be Interviewed on Oprah
Heroic civilian police officer Sergeant Kimberly Munley, who confronted and disabled Fort Hood gunman Nidal Malik Hasan, is reportedly doing well after being shot three times in the dramatic confrontation. Sergeant Munley was shot once in each thigh and she also received a gunshot wound in her knuckle after reacting with aggression by opening fire on the Fort Hood gunman.
She was visited at the Fort Hood hospital where she is currently receiving treatment by U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Tuesday and she has been interviewed along with Sergeant Mark Todd, a fellow responder to the scene at Fort Hood, by television talk show host Oprah Winfrey via teleconference. According to CNN.com, Sergeant Todd was not wounded in the confrontation with Nidal Malik Hasan.
During the interview with Winfrey, which is scheduled to air on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Wednesday, Munley provided an update on her current health by saying, "I'm doing well. Every day is progress for me, and things are getting better day by day. And emotionally, I'm just hoping that the rest of the officers and the injured and the families of the deceased are healing as well."
Officials are crediting Sergeant Munley's courageous aggressiveness and training she had received in the field of active-response tactics in her efforts to disable the Fort Hood Gunman last Thursday.
