Taylor Swift's "Love Story" Named Song of the Year at BMI Country Awards
The 2009 BMI Country Awards were held on Tuesday night and the stars of the event were undoubtedly 19-year-old country music sensation Taylor Swift, who won Song of the Year for "Love Story", and music industry legend Kris Kristofferson, who was honored with the BMI Icon Award. The publishing rights society's Song of the Year award is sure to mean a great deal to Swift, who reportedly takes a great deal of pride in her songwriting ability.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Swift's victory in the Song of the Year category at the BMI Country Awards is a positive indication that she may be in store for an incredibly successful night on Wednesday at the 2009 Country Music Assn. Awards where she is nominated in four categories including Entertainer of the Year.
In her acceptance speech after receiving the award for Song of the Year, Swift expressed her gratitude by saying, "I just want to say thank you to every songwriter and every loved one of a songwriter, thank you, because you are the reason I wanted to try Nashville. You are all my heroes."
Another country music star who was honored at the 2009 BMI Country Awards was 73-year-old Kris Kristofferson who was the recipient of the publishing rights society's Icon Award. Country music legends Vince Gill, Patty Griffin and Willie Nelson paid tribute to Kristofferson before he accepted his award.
