Tyler Not Leaving Aerosmith, Departure Rumors an Apparent Publicity Stunt
The rumored departure of Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler from the legendary rock group has dominated entertainment headlines in recent days. Media outlets speculated about Tyler potentially pursuing a solo career, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry announcing that the band was beginning the process of finding a suitable replacement for Tyler and rumored dissension between Tyler and Perry.
However, MTV.com is reporting that Tyler surprisingly appeared on stage during a Tuesday night performance by Joe Perry's side project group at New York City's Irving Plaza to announce that the rumors of Aerosmith's demise were not factual. Aerosmith's lead singer grabbed a microphone to announce to the shocked fans in attendance, "New York! I want you to know that I'm not leaving Aerosmith. Joe Perry, you are a man of many colors. But I, mother [expletive], am the rainbow."
Tyler's announcement sent spectators in attendance into a frenzy and after the much-publicized Aerosmith breakup rumors were finally put to rest, Tyler, Perry and the Project broke into their version of the popular Aerosmith hit "Walk This Way".
Both members of the band were interviewed by TMZ.com at the conclusion of the performance and both men commented on the fact that Aerosmith was to remain intact. During his portion of the interview, Tyler repeated the same expletive that he screamed on stage earlier in the night, saying, "There is absolutely no validity to the rumor that Aerosmith is breaking up, mother [expletive]!"
