Red Hot Chili Peppers Perform First Show Together in 2010
Back from their year long self imposed hiatus, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform together for the first time January 29 at the Musicares event in Los Angeles. The Annual Person of the Year 20th anniversary gala will honor Neil Young and feature tribute performances by Wilco, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, k.d Lang, Ozomatli, and James Taylor.
Musicares is paying tribute to Young for his "exceptional and influential artistic accomplishments as well as his philanthropic work, which has included many generous charitable activities over the years," Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the MusiCares Foundation said in a statement"Neil has set a standard of artistic integrity and iconoclastic creativity for more than four decades, and his achievements have been matched by his unwavering humanitarianism. He is a shining example of how music people offer their creative gifts to the world, and how they also give back through their commitments to charitable endeavors."
Kiedis himself was an honoree back in May receiving the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction and recovery process.Individually, the Chili Peppers have kept busy with side project, the most notable being bass player Flea in the Thom Yorke inspired supergroup and will play filler musician for the Pixies during their benefit show Dec. 8 at the Echoplex. Drummer Chad Smith has been involved with the band Chickenfoot, with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Joe Satriani.
The RHCP are currently working on their 10th album and follows up the 2006 critically acclaimed double album "Stadium Arcadium."
