John King to Replace Lou Dobbs as CNN News Anchor
Longtime CNN news anchor Lou Dobbs resigned on-air Wednesday night as a result of a feud between himself and network executives who had wanted him to tone down his opinionated style of anchoring and replace it with a more objective format. CNN announced last night that they would reveal his replacement early on Thursday and they have decided to place Sunday morning host John King into the 7 P.M. EST time slot.
The network's transition from Dobbs to King will calm minority groups that had been pleading for the removal of Dobbs for quite some time as a result of his firm stance against illegal immigration. According to The Washington Post, King is known for taking a neutral approach to politics and his style of news anchoring revolves around reporting as opposed to offering opinion.
Although the network had sought out a more neutral news anchor, CNN President Jon Klein announced in a statement he provided regarding King's placement into the 7 P.M. EST time slot that the news anchor would be encouraged to provide a wide range of opinions and insight.
King, who will resume his duties as a Sunday morning host until early 2010, expressed his excitement over the opportunity, stating, "There is a lot of noise and conflict in our political discourse, which is fun to cover, but I'm convinced from my travels that people also thirst for more details as well as insight and context."
