Ambassador to Afghanistan Cautions U.S. About Sending Troops

U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Kyle Eikenberry expresses his concern over sending more troops to Kabul

VOANews.com is reporting that U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Kyle Eikenberry has expressed his concerns over our nation potentially deciding to send more troops to Kabul. He expressed his concern in writing specifically to elaborate on the doubts that he has about corruption taking place within the Afghanistan government as well as mismanagement from the government that has led directly to the rise of the Taliban terrorist organization.

President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai has not commented on the Ambassador's vocal opinion about corruption and mismanagement that he believes is occurring within the Afghanistan government. According to VOANews.com, Ambassador Eikenberry served as the commander of U.S. troops in 2006 and 2007 in Afghanistan before ultimately retiring from the military.

John Groch, a spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, has commented on Ambassador Eikenberry's concerns by saying, It is his anticipation that the Afghans are going to come to expect more from their government, expect clean and competent leadership from their government. We want to support the Afghan government for the end of meeting those commitments and delivering those things to the Afghan people."

President Obama is not expected to select an Afghanistan war option until he returns from his eight-day trip to Asia, which begins on Thursday. It was reported on Wednesday night that the President advised the national security team to make revisions to each of the final four option plans in order to clarify a timeline for when U.S. troops would be able to return home.
