Official charges are expected to be announced later today in the case involving alleged Fort Hood gunman 39-year-old former Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan. Inside sources have announced to CNN that the alleged gunman will be charged with 13 separate counts of premeditated murder. An official announcement revealing the charges is expected to made later today at Fort Hood, according to The Washington Post.

Hasan, who authorities are accusing of having fired over 100 rounds during his rampage at the Fort Hood military base last Thursday, killed 12 members of the military and one civilian. The gunman also injured 42 others before he was confronted and detained by Sergeant Kimberly Munley.

The Washington Post is reporting that Nidal Malik Hasan's family has already hired well-respected former military judge John P. Galligan, who visited with the gunman in the hospital where he was receiving treatment for four gunshot wounds he sustained in the final confrontation with Sergeant Munley.

Galligan described the conversation that he had with the alleged Fort Hood gunman on Monday, saying, "He was sufficiently coherent, but in that half hour period I explained to him how I was retained, and secured from him an acceptance of my continued representation."

The former military judge is not allowing his client to be questioned without the presence of a defense attorney.
