Jackson's 'This Is It' Hits $200 million mark

Icon's concert-film continues to do well overseas.

Sony Pictures Entertainment, who bought This Is It movie rights for $60 million, announced Thursday that worldwide sales have passed $200 million in the first two weeks.

The concert-film, chronicling Michael Jackson's last days and preparation for the 50-concert tour of the same name before his sudden death in June, has continued to do substantially better overseas than at home. It has grossed $61 million in North America and over $140 million internationally, doing particularly well in Japan and the UK.

The movie still has a ways to go, as it is currently the 22nd biggest grossing movie worldwide of 2009, according to boxofficemojo.com. But this is only after two weeks and its place is sure to go up if international sales continue as they have.

This Is It has already taken the title for highest grossing concert film, tripling 2008's Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour.

The King of Pop's film opened on October 28 with a promises of a limited two-week run but, predictably, that was just a ruse: showings have been extended until early December....or whenever Sony feels it cannot milk the dead icon for any more money.
