Former Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan's Fort Hood rampage was not an act of terrorism, according to the FBI

Contrary to reports that initially surfaced after it was learned that alleged Fort Hood gunman Major Nidal Malik Hasan was influenced by a joint terrorism task force, the FBI has announced on Thursday that the former Army psychiatrist acted alone without involvement or encouragement from co-conspirators. The FBI is going through the process of examining Hasan's computer to analyze his Internet history and personal files in an attempt to discover his motive.

The FBI released a statement to clarify their latest development that reads, "The investigation to date has not identified a motive, and a number of possibilities remain under consideration. We are working with the military to obtain, review and analyze all information relating to Major Hasan in order to allow for a better understanding of the facts and circumstances that led to the Fort Hood shooting."

Although the FBI is insisting that Maj. Hasan's Fort Hood rampage was not part of a more elaborately detailed terrorist plot, they have confirmed that the Joint Terrorism Task Force was suspicious of him in December of last year in an unrelated investigation that was conducted, according to Chron.com. It was reported earlier today that Hasan will be charged with 13 separate counts of premeditated murder with each count representing a victim from killings at the Fort Hood military base.
