Doctors Inform Fort Hood Gunman That He May be Paralyzed

Defense attorney John Galligan has revealed that doctors have told Major Nidal Malik Hasan that may be paralyzed from the waist down

Alleged Fort Hood gunman Major Nidal Malik Hasan claims that he does not currently have any feeling in his lower extremities and doctors have reportedly informed him that the condition may be permanent, according to Hasan's defense attorney John Galligan. The Associated Press received a statement from Galligan on Friday morning about how doctors have not only notified Hasan that he may be permanently paralyzed from the waist down but that they are unsure as to whether or not the pain he is experiencing his hands will subside.

Friday marked the first occasion that Galligan and Hasan engaged in a formal meeting to discuss the upcoming case that Galligan's client is involved in. Galligan is reporting that the meeting, which was held in the hospital's intensive care unit, went well and that his client remained alert for a majority of the hour-long meeting before beginning to fade towards the end of it.

Galligan provided a comment to The Associated Press about Hasan's alertness during the meeting, stating, "He understands who I am. We can talk. But I was only there for an hour and towards the end of the one-hour session, I could tell I was kind of pushing him in terms of my ability to keep him fresh and alert in a discussion with me." The Fort Hood gunman was formally charged with 13 separate counts of premeditated murder on Thursday.
