Brandon Vera vs. Randy Couture Headlining UFC 105, Saturday

UFC 105 will be headlined by an intriguing light heavyweight matchup and a number one contender fight in the UFC welterweight division.

All of the mixed martial artists on the card for UFC 105 made weight at Friday morning's weigh-ins in Manchester, England, according to ESPN.com. The event will be headlined by an intriguing light heavyweight matchup between Muay Thai kickboxing specialist Brandon Vera and 46-year-old UFC legend Randy Couture, who returns to the light heavyweight division after four heavyweight bouts.

Vera is a former heavyweight in his own right and the most noteworthy victory of his mixed martial arts career came in a 2006 heavyweight matchup against former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir. He has been victorious in three of his four fights since dropping down to the light heavyweight division and he hopes to put himself into world title consideration with a victory over Couture on Saturday night.

The Filipino fighter admitted that he was reluctant to fight on the UFC 105 card until he learned who his opponent would be. Vera commented on his admiration for scheduled opponent on Saturday night, saying, "I've been a fan of Randy probably since he first fought. For sure, he's one of the greats, so if I'm going to get to where I want to be, I know I'm going to have to fight him."

Couture makes his return to the division where he is a two-time former world champion after a UFC 102 unanimous decision loss to fellow MMA legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. The 46-year-old fighter has not fought at 205 pounds in over three-and-a-half years and according to USA Today, he has not competed outside of the United States since 2001.

The card also features a number one contender matchup in the UFC welterweight division with the winner receiving a guaranteed future title shot against current champion Georges St. Pierre. American welterweight Mike Swick, who has won nine of his ten fights in the UFC, squares off with British welterweight Dan Hardy, who has won all three of his fights in the UFC, though two of them have come by controversial split decision.
