President Obama Demands Accountability if Warning Signs Were Missed

President Barack Obama announced in his weekly address to the nation that he demands accountability if appropriate action did not take place in regards to the Fort Hood gunman

During his weekly address to the nation on Saturday, President Barack Obama expressed his displeasure over the possibility that the Fort Hood gunman's rampage could have potentially been prevented if appropriate action had been taken awhile back. The President's statement comes in response to comments that were made by colleagues of the former Army psychiatrist and alleged Fort Hood gunman Major Nidal Malik Hasan.

The alleged gunman's former colleagues expressed their opinion that there had been signs of mental instability from the man who is the lone suspect in the Fort Hood case. President Obama, according to The Dallas Morning News, was also made aware of the FBI's failure to pursue an investigation after it had obtained e-mail interactions that took place between Hasan and a radical Muslim cleric that had been suspected of terrorism.

President Obama announced his demand for accountability during his address to the nation, stating, "We must compile every piece of information that was known about the gunman, and we must learn what was done with that information. Once we have those facts, we must act upon them. If there was a failure to take appropriate action before the shootings, there must be accountability."

The President went on to elaborate on his demand even further by criticizing the government for not acting immediately once it had come into contact with threatening information.
