Lifetime Achievement Awards Given to Greats
Good news: the Oscars will be shorter this year.
The Governors Awards, given to celebrate lifetime achievement, were presented on Saturday night. Usually, honorees receive recognition at the gala Oscar event, but a separate ceremony was created this year in the interest of time.
Lauren Bacall earned a lifetime achievement award, making it the first time she's ever won an Oscar. The sultry former co-star and wife of Humphrey Bogart starred in over 30 movies throughout her career.
She joked about how the award would bring her comfort at night.
"The thought that when I get home I'm going to have a two-legged man in my room is so exciting," Bacall said during her acceptance speech, reports Reuters.
Presenters also gave honorary awards to Roger Corman and Gordon Willis.
Because the event was not televised, there was more time devoted to each honoree. Their long and prolific careers were showcased in detail, complete with personal stories from close friends.
Many big Hollywood names who may soon receive their own golden men at the March 2010 Oscars turned up for the event. Quentin Tarantino, Jeff Bridges, Gabourey Sidibe, Morgan Freeman, and Alec Baldwin were all present.
