Body of Missing Five-Year Old Girl Discovered in North Carolina

The body of five-year old Shaniya Davis was discovered on Monday in North Carolina according to the public information officer of the Fayetteville Police Department, Theresa Chance.

According to CNN.com, Shaniya Davis' mother, Antoinette Nicole Davis, has been formally charged with sex trafficking for allegedly prostituting her daughter as well as other criminal offenses such as felony child abuse and filing a false police report.

Antoinette Nicole Davis filed a false police report last week with the Fayetteville Police Department stating that five-year old Shaniya Davis had disappeared from her family's mobile home. Chance revealed that authorities were clinging to hope that the missing five-year old girl would still be alive when they found her but they discovered her dead body near a roadway southeast of Sanford, N.C., after receiving reliable information that her body may have been dumped there.

Shaniya Davis's father, Bradley Lockhart, had been raising his daughter for several years according to The Associated Press and he had only decided to let her stay with Antoinette Nicole Davis in October.

Lockhart, who is not involved in any of the charges that authorities in North Carolina have filed against Shaniya's mother, told The Associated Press over the weekend that he should have never allowed her to stay at her mother's residence.
