Man Who Tried to Blackmail Cindy Crawford Turns Himself In
26-year-old Edis Kayalar has reportedly turned himself in to authorities after allegations that he tried to extort $100,000 from supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber. According to The Associated Press, Kayalar turned himself in to police on Tuesday morning in the southwestern city of Stuttgart, Germany. Kayalar has been formally charged by prosecutors with one count of extortion and he will be tried in the United States. The 26-year-old faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison if he is found guilty of extortion.
Kayalar's extortion plot revolved around a photograph that he had in his possession of Crawford's daughter, 7-year-old Kaya, sitting in a chair while being bound and gagged. Crawford had not been aware of the existence of the alleged photograph until the extortion plot was created by Kayalar. Her daughter, Kaya, provided her parents with details about the photograph by clarifying that it had been taken by her nanny during a game of "cops and robbers".
Later today, the 26-year-old Kayalar will reportedly appear before a judge to learn about whether or not he will remain in detention. Vogue.co.uk is reporting that Kayalar had been deported by U.S. authorities three weeks ago after he had violated immigration and been taken into federal custody earlier in the year.
