UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar Undergoes Minor Surgery

While Brock Lesnar's MMA career remains uncertain, he underwent minor surgery that reportedly has him feeling better

It was reported a few weeks ago that current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar was forced to pull out of a scheduled title defense against undefeated heavyweight Shane Carwin as a result of a severe sickness that had been preventing him from training for the fight. Lesnar joined the rapidly growing list of prominent UFC competitors who are currently on the shelf due to injury, including current UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida as well as other highly regarded contenders such as heavyweight fighter Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and welterweight fighter Thiago Alves.

Staff members at the hospital where Lesnar is currently receiving treatment have revealed that the MMA fighter is currently suffering from mononucleosis as well as a bacterial infection that is located in his intestinal track. MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Lesnar underwent minor surgery on Tuesday, though details of the procedure have not been released.

UFC President Dana White revealed that no decision has been made about the UFC Heavyweight Title if Lesnar is unable to defend it by July of 2009. The most likely possibility would involve the implementation of an interim UFC Heavyweight Championship until Lesnar would be well enough to return to action. A potential matchup for an interim UFC Heavyweight Championship would likely involve Carwin and fellow undefeated heavyweight Cain Velasquez, who is coming off a second round TKO victory over Ben Rothwell.
