Pattinson Was Not First Choice for Edward
Robert Pattinson has his co-star Kellan Lutz to thank for his fame.
Creators of the greatly successful "Twilight" movies originally wanted Lutz to play the role of Edward. The actor, who recollected the talks preceding the casting to Ryan Seacrest, had no desire to take on this part, reports the Daily News.
"I was doing [HBO's] Generation Kill' and was sent the script in Africa," Lutz said Monday during Seacrest's radio show. "I put it off, then finally read it and by the time I got back to L.A. they said, OK, are you ready to audition for Edward? I said, I don't want to play Edward. He's too complex, too depressing for me.'"
Producers still wanted Lutz to appear in the film, and offered him the opportunity to play Emmett instead. This idea was much more appealing to Lutz and he accepted.
Emmett was "one of those fun-loving characters that I like the play," Lutz told Seacrest.
With this choice, he paved the way for Pattinson to step in and earn the fame he now enjoys. Still, he does not regret his decision to play the lesser-loved character.
"Fame is fame
. Everything that comes with this whole phenomenon is breathtaking," Lutz told Seacrest. "I'm so happy with Emmett. I don't care to be famous."
