Buffalo Bills Fire Head Coach Dick Jauron After 3-6 Start to 2009 Season
Large contingents of Buffalo Bills fans clamored for the firing of the team's head coach, Dick Jauron, after the 2008 season came to a conclusion due to the fact that the team finished the year with a 7-9 record for the third consecutive year under his tutelage. After the team stumbled out of the blocks in 2009 with a 3-6 record to start the season, Bills owner Ralph Wilson decided to fire Jauron on Tuesday.
The decision comes as the Bills find themselves in a clear-cut rebuilding stage that has seemingly been long overdue. The franchise neglected a glaring need during the past two off-season's to acquire a franchise signal caller that the team could build around in favor of incumbent starter Trent Edwards, who has performed inadequately when healthy.
The Bills also shockingly traded Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters to the Philadelphia Eagles and received very little in return, leaving the team with a noticeable weakness on the most important position along the offensive line. Bills General Manager Russ Brandon opted to focus his attention on signing controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens, who has been practically invisible through the season's first nine games.
Hall of Fame Owner Ralph Wilson commented on his decision, stating, "While this was a very difficult decision, I felt that it is one that needed to be made at this time for the best interest of our team. We will now focus on moving forward and preparing for our game this week in Jacksonville."
