Johnny Depp Named Sexiest Man Alive

People Magazine has had a track record of labeling a prominent celebrity as the ‘Sexiest Man Alive' after they have been in the public spotlight throughout the year. However, the publication opted to break the mold this year by naming actor Johnny Depp as the ‘Sexiest Man Alive' despite the fact that he maintained a noticeably low profile in 2009.

According to MSNBC.com, Depp received the same award from People Magazine six years ago and he joins fellow actors George Clooney and Brad Pitt as the only men to receive the title on two separate occasions.

Editor of People Magazine, Julie Jordan, revealed that the other actor who received strong consideration from the publication for the title of ‘Sexiest Man Alive' was "Twilight: New Moon" star Robert Pattinson. Jordan announced that while Pattinson would have been a trendy selection for the award, Depp's longevity in the public eye and his unparalleled body of work in the entertainment industry were more than enough to help him become a two-time winner.

Actress Isla Fisher provided a comment regarding her opinion of the 46-year-old actor in the pages of the popular publication, saying, "Johnny Depp has magical powers. He's unlike anyone else. He's funny, generous and clever. It's just a shame he's so hard on the eyes."
