Janet Jackson Reveals That Her Late Brother Didn't Realize His Drug Problem
More details have been revealed from Janet Jackson's ABC interview with news correspondent Robin Roberts that is scheduled to air later today.
According to MTV.com, the R&B singer states that she was well-aware of Michael Jackson's drug problem and that she attempted to intervene but her brother rejected due to possible denial that he was enduring a problem. According to Janet Jackson, multiple members of the Jackson family reached out to the troubled King of Pop' but they were all ultimately unsuccessful in encouraging him to seek treatment.
During her interview with Roberts, she discussed her attempts to intervene by stating, "Those are the things that you do when you love someone. You can't just let them continue on that way. And we did a few times. We weren't very successful. You can't make 'em drink the water. It's something that you can't do for them, something they have to do for themselves."
She clarified that Jackson took note that she and other family members were simply trying to help him but that he did not realize the severity of his drug dependency. Janet Jackson's first marriage to James DeBarge ended as a result of her husband's well-documented addiction to prescription medication and she cited her first marriage as a learning experience in regards to the dangers of drug dependency, according to MTV.com.
