Entertainment Veteran Hamish Hamilton to Direct 82nd Academy Awards

Academy Award producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman unveiled the producer of the 82nd Academy Awards on Wednesday

Entertainment industry veteran Hamish Hamilton has been selected by Academy Award producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman to be the director for the 82nd Academy Awards. The official announcement was made on Wednesday and it ensured that Hamilton will have an incredibly hectic workload at the start of 2010. The longtime entertainment industry director will be directing the Super Bowl halftime show in February, which is scheduled to occur approximately one month before the 2010 Oscars.

The 82nd Academy Awards are scheduled to occur on March 7, 2010, according to the official website for the Oscars. Hamilton's resume in the entertainment business is an illustrious one as it includes direction credits from the MTV Video Music Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards as well as popular live concerts featuring such prominent acts as Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder and U2, according to The Associated Press.

The 2010 Oscars were originally slated to be held at the end of February but officials for the prestigious award show decided to push the event back in order to ensure that it would not coincide with the closing ceremony for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The nominees for each category at the 82nd Academy Awards will be unveiled on Feb. 2, 2010.
