Depp is the "Sexiest Man Alive"

How does it feel to be the sexiest man alive? Ask Johnny Depp.

The annual title of "Sexiest Man Alive," awarded by People, has gone to Depp for 2009.

People's choice may seem peculiar, given that Depp stayed relatively out of the spotlight this year and is not currently promoting any movie. Kate Coyne, the senior editor at People, was ready with an explanation.

"He was sexy ten years ago, he'll be sexy ten years from now," Coyne said while on CBS' "The Early Show," reports Associated Content. "He appeals to multiple generations of women—and for many different reasons to different kinds of women.

Depp is also considered by People to be "Hollywood's most irresistible iconoclast; as one-of-a-kind as his beloved 15-year-old boots and as smoldering as his favorite Cuban cigars."

All these considerable compliments could go to a man's head, but Depp has been through it all before and maintained his cool. He was named People's "Sexiest Man Alive" back in 2003.
