Dolphins Star Running Back Ronnie Brown Out for the Season
The most dynamic and essential component of the Miami Dolphins offensive arsenal was placed on injured reserve, Wednesday. Team officials have revealed that star running back Ronnie Brown, who sustained a serious right foot injury in last Sunday's victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is out for the season due to in the injury's severity. It was originally speculated that the Dolphins' leading rusher had suffered a sprained foot but when it was learned that he could not put much pressure at all on it, he visited with a specialist for a detailed diagnosis.
Although no detail has been provided in regards to the actual injury that Brown sustained, the diagnosis was severe enough for the Dolphins to place him on injured reserve, which has effectively put an end to his 2009 campaign. Not only was Brown the most vital component of the team's innovative Wildcat offensive package but he was also a consistently productive performer who opposing defenses viewed as the team's most feared weapon.
Brown's injury has opened the door for Ricky Williams to slide into the starting lineup. Williams has been incredibly effective throughout the season, having rushed for 558 yards and six touchdowns thus far. However, while the team certainly has a high quality replacement for Brown, they will sorely miss his versatility as well as the threat of having Brown and Williams on the field at the same time.
