California Becomes First State with Energy Saving TV Regulations

California comes out with smart, energy saving television set laws

On Wednesday California approved on the first mandatory curve on TV sets that consume too much energy. Although it is often overlooked, energy coming from television sets can be an expensive cost.

Supporters of the curve say that this law could end up saving the people of California $8 Billion in the next ten years. As of now, television sets are the cause of 10 percent of home electric bills across the country.

By 2011 all television sets sold in the state of California must consume 33 percent less energy than those that are on the market today. By the year 2013 the televisions sets for sale must consume 50 percent less energy. Californians are doing this in hopes that all TV manufacturers will have a standard set and that more states will follow their example.

This may sound like a great idea but industry heavyweights are resisting this law because they think television sales will decline.
