Artist Jeanne-Claude Dies

Jeanne-Claude, contributor to groundbreaking works of art, died on Wednesday night.

An innovative contributor to the world of art has died.

Jeanne-Claude, wife of Christo and half of the dynamic art duo, died on Wednesday night.

The 74-year-old's death resulted from complications from a ruptured brain aneurysm, reports the NY Daily News.

A statement on the couple's Web site expressed Christo's feelings about the tragic passing of Jeanne-Claude.

"Christo is deeply saddened by the passing of his wife, partner and collaborator," the statement read, "and is committed to honor the promise they made to each other many years ago: The art of Christo and Jeanne-Claude will continue."

The two met in Paris 51 years ago and have been working on massive art projects together ever since. Their work is known around the globe, from Japan, to Paris, to New York City.

Most notably, Christo and Jeanne-Claude were the masterminds behind implementing "The Gates" project in Central Park, covering Paris's Pont Neuf in fabric, and wrapping Berlin's Reichstag.

Despite the loss, Christo plans to continue what he and his wife originally set out to do. He will continue to work on current projects, including "Over the River, Project for the Arkansas River, State of Colorado" and "The Mastaba" piece in the United Arab Emirates.
