King's Dome' to come to television with Spielberg's aid
Renowned horror fiction writer Stephen King is teaming up with heralded film director Steven Spielberg to bring King's latest supernatural thriller entitled "Under the Dome," to television as a limited cable series.According to an article on Variety.com, the series begins rather ominously, "
after an invisible force field suddenly descends on a small vacation town in Maine. As the locals fight for their survival, the town descends into warring factions led by enigmatic characters."
DreamWorks principal Stacey Snider was the driving force behind the project being brought to the company. Snider, along with King and Spielberg will be "Dome's" executive producers alongside Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, DreamWorks TV chiefs.
Meanwhile, DreamWorks has begun to meet with writers for the venture. The Variety.com then points out that this collaboration is not the first between Spielberg and King, "[They developed] a screen adaptation of King's 1984 novel The Talisman,' on which Spielberg has had the option for more than 20 years. That project has been developed as a feature, and it came close to being done as a mini for TNT a few years ago until it was tabled for budgetary reasons.'" "Dome" is not the only small screen undertaking that will be uniting Spielberg and DreamWorks TV as partners. Two other high-profile endeavors in the works include a series that will chronicle the beginnings of a fictional Broadway production as well as costume-drama focusing on the Borgia clan, which will be produced by Robert Zemeckis and written by Neil Jordan. Both projects are being developed for Showtime.
