New "Avatar" Videogame Looks Promising
Videogames that are based from popular movies have a terrible reputation of sucking simply because of the restraints in both plot and developing time for the game. James Cameron's Avatar: The Game, however, plans to break away from those expectations.
Instead of following the plot of the movie, gamers will be able to not only play through a different story line and have totally unique adventures, but they will be able to create their own character or "avatar" as well.
"There were two main concepts: doing the game of the world, not the movie, and giving the players the choice to choose sides. We felt in the beginning of the project there is a big part of the story that's not told." Executive Producer of the game, Patrick Naud, tells the LA Times.
According to the game's website, gamers will also be able to "customize more than 60 RDA and Na'vi weapons, combined;" creating what will be a more exclusive experience.
The game has been 3 years in the making, which is more time than most regular non-film based games take to develop. The average film based game, like Rainbow Industries' Cars may only have months to create which puts game developers in a frantic race against time and renders the game less effective.
What is more exciting about the game is that it should be in 3-D!
"The bunker' is how Patrick Naud, the executive producer of the game, referred to the area for the team dedicated to the creation of a 3-D gaming experience that matches Cameron's ambitious film project. Cameras, guards, extra locks and some fairly scary employee contracts have all been put into place to protect the game that looks to be one of the most intriguing releases of 2009." LA Times reports.
Ubisoft is now polishing up the game for its debut Dec. 1.
