The newest installment of the "Twilight" series, "New Moon," has broken the record for a single-day opening on Friday at the North American box office. According to ABC News, with $72.7 million in the United States and Canada, the film broke "The Dark Knight" record of $67.2 million last year.
The record sales included $26.3 million in midnight-screenings alone, reported the Hollywood Reporter. The first "Twilight" film earned $36 million on it's first day opening a year ago and $69 million its opening weekend.
The vampire flick blew the second-highest ranking movie of the day out of the water, which was "The Blind Side" with only 10.8 million.
