Brad Pitt to Star in Video Game Movie
Brad Pitt to star in a video game movie? Apparently he didn't get the memo that about 90 percent of those end up sucking and half of the good ones were never even made ("Halo," anyone?). Either way, Reliance Big Entertainment and Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B, have made a deal with Capcom to transfer sci-fi action game "Dark Void" to the big screen.
But maybe this will be different . . .? The game hasn't been released yet: Capcom, a video game developing and publishing company, plans to do that for both Xbox360 and Playstation 3 in January. I don't know how much that changes the curse of video games making bad movies, but it seems hopeful enough that this isn't just some old franchise from which they're trying to squeeze more money .
"Dark Void" centers around Will, a pilot who crash-lands in the Bermuda Triangle, and takes place in an alternate universe where superior aliens plan to enslave a primitive human population. Will teams up with some other modern-day people who have been thrown into this world and fights against said invasion, utilizing both aerial and ground-based combat.
"We are delighted that our creative partnership with Plan B has led to this agreement to develop the Dark Void motion picture along with Capcom. We also look forward to future projects from them," said Reliance Big Chairman Amit Khanna.
So maybe it won't be that bad. The story line sounds a little iffy, but it seems that both sides are working towards making it open-ended so that the transition from home theater to big screen and vice versa won't feel as forced as past attempts.
