The Macy's Parade Is Taking A New Route
The Macy's parade changed its route for the first time in more than 80 years
The Macy's parade will be taking a new route this year, reported The Associated Press.
The annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will take a new 2.65 mile route which is slightly longer than other years and includes turns in five corners.
In the more than 80-years of its history, the parade had taken the same route bypassing Broadway cutting diagonally through Manhattan and finishing at the Macy's store in Herald Square.
The change came as parts of Broadway are closed to vehicles and making it off limit to the floats.
The floats presented this year include Ronald McDonald, Buzz Lightyear, and Spider-Man. The size and shape of the balloons make it difficult to make turns and keep them in route.
Excellent coordination is key to maintaining the floats moving for the parade.
The floats are not the only things affected by the change in route for the parade, as the marching bands have to keep precision in the lines and maintain the pace while making the turns.
