Glastonbury Festival 2009 - Day 4

Organizers for U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival, which celebrates its 40th year in 2010, just announced U2 will headline the events' kick off date June 25. This will mark the band's first appearance at the outdoor festival in Somerset as the band take a break from their current North American 360 tour.

Promising more surprises in the pipeline, festival organizer Michael Eavis took to the festival website to report, "The 26-year-old rumor has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world! Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party."

The sprawling Glastonbury Festival covers 900 acres of land with 11 stages and tents blending well known and emerging talent with acoustic, world, jazz and dance. Last year's festival saw Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Lady Gaga, Franz Ferdinand, Q Tip, and Peaches mix it up with Black Eyed Peas, Bon Iver, Echo & The Bunnymen, Roots Manuva , Ray Davies and Jason Mraz.

Rumors swirl that artists from Beyonce and Radiohead to bands featured every year the festival has been in existence may perform the already sold-out five day event, however organizer say more tickets will be released in the coming weeks.
