Seven middle school students attacked for being 'gingers"
Seven red-heads, four girls and threeboys, were attacked at a Calabasas middle school, reported the Los Angeles Times. The attacks, known as ginger-attacks, came after a message on social network Facebook told the students of A.E. Wright Middle School that it was "Kick a Ginger Day" early Friday morning. The term ginger is used to describe those who have red hair, freckles and pale skin and was inspired by television series "South Park."
Attackers were in grades seven and eight and authorities have reported eight students under investigation.
The first reported attack was of a 12-year-old boy who was treated by the school nurse. The incident was reported to be one of the more aggressive, but the boy did not stand alone. Following initial publicity other students admitted they too were attacked.
Police are investigating the possibility of assault with a deadly weapon.
