Former CBS News Producer Dies
According to CBS News online, their former producer, Bernard Birnbaum, died this Thanksgiving at the age of 89.
Birnbaum had been at CBS News since 1951 and produced "Sunday Morning" beginning in 1990 and went on to produce programs including "Adventure," "Eyewitness to History," and "The American Parade." During his career, Birnbaum won seven Emmy Awards, and covered some of the most important events of the past few decades.
Some of his most memorable coverage was investigating the Kennedy Assassination and covering the Vietnam War, during which he made several trips to the country. He also produced a program called "Christmas in Appalachia" with Charles Kuralt, which was a documentary about unemployed miners in Kentucky. The program raised $70,000 from viewers.
Bernard Birnbaum is survived by his two daughters and his four grandchildren.
