Hasselholff Under Psychiatric Hold

Hasselhoff was taken by ambulance to the hospital on Friday after consuming large amounts of alcohol, Radaronline.com reports.

Hasselhoff had returned from Canada on Wednesday and visited a physician. He began to drink after his visit, though he had been drinking previously. His booze binge ended up with a trip in an ambulance after having a seizure.Hasselhoff was picked up under the California Welfare and Institutions Code 5150. The code allows authorities to take into custody persons they believe may be a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or suffer from a mental disorder. Cedars-Sinai doctors agreed Hasselhoff needed to be admitted, and under Code 5151, will hold him for up to 72 hours for a psychiatric evaluation.

The Web site also reported the "Baywatch" star has been battling alcoholism for years and has been hospitalized more than five times.
