Groove Armada goes Virtual with "Black Light"
Groove Armada has got game, PS3 to be exact, and are going where no band has gone before. The UK dance-pop duo are launching their eighth studio album, "Black Light" with a concert inside the gaming system's virtual reality world known as Home by visiting the Presentation Podium area.
Playstation Home most recently hosted the launch of the uber-violent war game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and has promoted movies and videogames in the past. According to Sony, over eight million accounts have been created since the service became available to PS3 owners as a public beta in 2008.
"Black Light" promises a turn-around in sound for Findlay and Cato, a darker mix than the big-beat they'd been churning out. Findley admits to Limewire music blog that Johnny-come-latelies might dig what the band is putting out now, "I think even people who've hated everything we've ever made before could absolutely love this record."
Drawing on the Lovebox Festival they annually oversee, the band was inspired by Bowie, Gary Numan, New Order, and Roxy Music. And speaking of Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry is among the many featured artists who make an appearance on the album which includes vocal tracks from Empire of the Sun's Nick Littlemore and British pop diva, Saint Saviour who performs on the first single, "I Won't Kneel."
"Black Light" is due out February 23.
