Rare Edgar Allan Poe Book to be Auctioned Off

A very sought after Edgar Allan Poe book is to be auctioned at New York

Edgar Allan Poe's book is to be sold at New York auction for record winnings, reported Associated Press.

Poe's first book "Tamerlane and Other Poems," one of the world's rarest and most sought after books, will be auctioned off at Christie's in New York on Friday.

Officials told reporters the book will possibly sell for a record price for American literature, expecting to get $500,000 to $700,000 for the book.

The record for the priciest book auctioned is held by "Tamerlane," sold at $250,000.

The book is part of the 300-book collection being sold by William Self, former president of Twentieth Century Fox Television.

Christie's will also be selling the Los Angeles resident's Mark Twain collection, Jane Austen's and Charles Dickens' collection, among others.

Self said he is selling the collections since his wife, and collecting partner, died three years ago and he does not want to burden his children with caring for the books.
