Chelsea Handler Coaxes Chris Colfer's Sexuality Out
Never one for a dull moment, comedian Chelsea Handler confronted actor Chris Colfer from FOX's Glee earlier this month about the 19-year-old's alleged homosexuality.
In a Dec. 4 appearance upon the E! Network's Chelsea Lately, Handler nudged Colfer to openly admit his sexuality on-air and end the conflicting statements he previously made to the media.
With a tentative "yes" to Handler's claim that "[y]our character is gay, and we know you're gay," Colfer then sarcastically added, "My answer to that question was, prior to coming out, that I was as straight as every other actor in Hollywood."
Handler commended Colfer for his honesty, saying that he could inspire thousands of others to live their lives more openly, and continued to interview the Glee star about adult diapers, the paparazzi and truancy.
Speaking to The Advocate - a national gay and lesbian newsmagazine - last October, Colfer mentioned that people "were killed in my hometown" of Clovis, California for being openly gay, and referred to Ryan Murphy, the gay mastermind behind Glee, as his adopted stepdad.
But then last month, Colfer glibly deflected a USA Today reporter's question about his sexuality by saying, "I try to keep up a mystery. As much as I give away of my personal life, the less people will believe me as other characters ... It is what it is."
So far this season, the flamboyant Kurt Hummel, as played by Colfer, has challenged Glee Club member Rachel to a "diva-off" and taught the high school's football team to get in-touch with their inner "Single Ladies."
