Weezer member injured in Thruway accident
Alternative rock band Weezer was involved in an accident on the New York State Thruway Sunday morning, Dec. 6, in which the band's lead singer suffered minor injuries.
The band's bus was heading eastbound when it slid on some ice on the roadway. The bus slid onto the median then back across the eastbound lanes, broke through the guardrail and was stuck in a ditch on the side of the road, according to State Police Sgt. Brian Dollard, Timesunion.com reports.
Lead singer Rivers Cuomo complained of rib pain at the scene of the incident, and the band's assistant Sarah Kim told police she had back pain. An ambulance transported both Cuomo and Kim to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Cuomo's wife, Kyoko Cuomo, and 2-year-old daughter, along with one other passenger were on the bus but unharmed.
The bus driver, John Cox, 57, from Texas, told police that the bus slid on some ice on the roadway. But Dollard said police didn't think ice was a factor in the accident.
"It's amazing that it didn't flip over," Dollard said.
The band had played a gig Saturday night in Toronto and was scheduled to perform Monday night at the Agganis Arena at Boston University. They are currently touring in support of their seventh album, "Raditude."
