Young Couple Wins
A young couple from San Diego is now $1 million dollars richer thanks to the "Amazing Race."
Meghan Rickey and Cheyne Whitney won the fifteenth season of the CBS reality show on Sunday night's finale, reports the Associated Press. The 23-year-old students have known each other since childhood and have been together for several years.
Before winning, Rickey and Whitney, along with the two other teams, had to race through Las Vegas. Their challenges brought them to notable Vegas venues and ultimately ended in a casino. In the last leg, the final three had to gather clues from an Elvis Presley impersonator, rappel down the side of the Mandalay resort, and bungee jump in the building where Cirque du Soleil performs.
Dan and Sam McMillen, the gay brothers, also made it to the final show and ultimately came in second. Ericka Dunlap, who was crowned Miss America in 2004, and her husband Brian Kleinschmidt finished in third.
Rickey and Whitney fell behind right before the last challenge due to a confused taxi driver. Nevertheless, they were able to count out $1 million dollars worth of chip faster than the other two pairs who had gotten there first.
After leaving the casino, the couple learned that they had to end the race at Wayne Newton's house. They landed on the mat first, earning themselves the winning title and $1 million dollars.
Rickey appreciated the amazing opportunities that the race offered.
"This has been such a learning experience," she said. "Every step of the way it has been so neat."
