Weezer Singer Injured in Bus Accident
Rivers Cuomo, lead singer of Weezer, was hospitalized Sunday after their tour bus crashed. Cuomo, 40, and another passenger were both taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, N.Y.
The accident happened early Sunday morning, around 7:30 a.m., on the eastbound New York State Thruway near the city of Amsterdam, says Sergeant Brian Dollard of the New York State Police.
The driver of the bus reports that the back end of the bus slid on ice and that caused the bus to go into the median and hit reflective posts before crossing back over the highway. The bus then hopped over the guardrail and landed in a ditch.
Cuomo's wife, daughter, and a fifth passenger remain uninjured, while Cuomo has mostly been complaining of rib pains.
The tour bus was driving to Boston, Massachusetts from Toronto, Ontario for a performance Monday night at the Agganis Arena at Boston University.
The police do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
