Universal, Sony and EMI Work Together to Make Music Video Site

Top music labels will collaborate to create Vevo, a music video website

Vevo, a website for music videos, will be introduced on Tuesday by Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Abu Dhabi Media Company.

Vevo has signed EMI Music as a video provider for the site, which leaves out only one of the big four labels, Warner Music. Conversations between Warner and Vevo are continuing.

Rio Caraeff, Vevo's chief executive said in an interview with the NY Times "it will be a higher-quality experience around music and videos than anything else that's currently out there." Caraeff reported that the site would be hosting 30,000 music videos by the end of the year.

Vevo, which was announced last spring, has some similarities to Hulu, the website for viewing television that is owned by a group of TV networks.

Caraeff also stated in his interview his confidence "that we will have Warner Music videos available in the Vevo network fairly soon," but until then, search results for artists on the Warner label will direct fans to other sites.

Videos will be hosted and streamed by YouTube, and Vevo will come online the evening of Tuesday, December 8.
