Hudson Criticized For Role in South African Film

Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson was cast as Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in a new film, but many South African actors are not happy about it.

Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson is being criticized by South African actors for her role as Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in a new film. Using foreign actors makes the film's idea more Hollywood than The Creative Workers Union of South Africa would like.

Union Secretary General Oupa Lebogo said the decision to make Hudson play Madikizela-Mandela "must be reversed," and the union will "push for a moratorium to be placed on the film," Yahoo.com reports.

The new film, directed by South African film-maker Darrell J. Roodt, is about Madikizela-Mandela's life and her campaign to release her husband during his 27-year imprisonment, as well as the scandals that that ruined her image.

This criticism of Hudson came before the release of "Invictus", a film about Nelson Mandela's rugby team, which won the World Cup in 1995. Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon star in the film.
