Clay Aiken was accused by city officials of voter fraud in recent elections, according to Radar Online.
The singer came under attack from North Carolina politicians after an article in the news reported Aiken had voted in Wake County while he was living in Chatham County.
Aiken voted for school board officials in October by registering under his mother's address. Recently however Aiken posted insults of the board members, calling them "selfish idiots," on his blog, which may have incited the board to act against him.
The chairman of the Wake County Republican Party, Claude Pope, told reporters the dispute over Aiken's vote did not come from the recent blog post, instead it came as an obligation to correct an error.
The American Idol runner-up made an announcement saying he withdrew his voter registration in order to avoid getting into a technical dispute. On Wednesday the Wake County Board of Elections held a meeting to discuss the matter and determined no action would be taken against Aiken since he withdrew the registration.
