The Eternal Schedule of Sonic Youth

Sonic Youth pencil in studio time for 17th album and DVD release among the project for 2010.

2010 is already planned out for Sonic Youth. Fresh off of last weeks' stellar ATP concert line-up performing with The Horrors, Sun Ra, Yo La Tengo, The Buzzcocks, J Mascis, and F*cked Up, guitarist Lee Ranaldo told BBC 6 the band would be heading back into the studio to record album 17 with Matador.

But first out of the gate will be a movie soundtrack for director Michel Gondry. Ranaldo said the band met with the French filmmaker in Paris while he was working on a movie called "Return of the Ice Kings" and "we liked what we saw."

A "Daydream Nation" DVD release is also in the works combining footage from the 2007/08 tour with clips of the band singing the song back in 1988. Trippy.

Ecstatic Peace Library, Thurston Moore's publishing company, will release the works of bandmate and wife Kim Gordon, author Dave Markey (1991: The Year That Punk Broke), and hardcore punk artist Raymond Pettibon. Add that to the massive undertaking of documenting 30 years worth of audio/video archives currently sitting in a Hoboken warehouse waiting to be digitized and you're looking at a full calendar.

Let's not forget SY are still in their honeymoon phase with "The Eternal."
