Carrie Underwood Opens Up to

Esquire magazine's latest issue features an in depth interview with Underwood.

Carrie Underwood talks songs, career, and relationships in the latest edition of "Esquire" magazine.

The 26-year-old country singer spoke about the first time she pushed herself to try out her shot in the music business. She began to get nervous on the car ride to L.A. for "American Idol."

"My dad was driving, and he said 'If you want to go home, we can go home, and you never have to think about this again," she described, reports MTV. "And I figured it would be easier for me to get kicked off 'American Idol' than to have it be my own decision."

The "American Idol" winner also spoke about that infamous judge, Simon Cowell.

"Simon's obviously very smart," she conceded, reports MSNBC. "But he's not the smartest person I know."

When interviewers asked how she felt about using her celebrity to promote political ideologies, Underwood said that she would not take on that role as other artists have.

"Americans don't need Carrie Underwood telling them who to vote for," she said. "They're smarter than that."

As for those rumors that her song, "Cowboy Casanova," is in reference to Tony Romo, who she dated in 2007, Underwood said they are downright false.

"No," she said when asked if the football player inspired the song. "I would never immortalize a guy that did me wrong. I would never give him that much credit."
