DreamWorks obtains 'I Saw You'

DreamWorks beat out several rival studios to claim Andrea McCloud's pitch for the romantic comedy, "I Saw You," whose film adaptation will be based on Julia Wertz's anthology of comic books.

DreamWorks came out the winner in a bidding war for Andrea McCloud's romantic comedy pitch for the film adaptation of the comic series, "I Saw You."

According to an article on Variety.com, "Story is based on Julia Wertz's anthology of comics 'I Saw You ... ,' which culls vignettes from missed connection ads in the newspaper and on Craigslist. Book was published in February by Three Rivers Press."

DreamWorks's mid-six figures bid was enough to beat out studios such as New Line and Screen Gems among others. George Tillman, Jr., who also directed the 2000 Robert De Niro/Cuba Gooding, Jr./Charlize Theron biodrama, "Men of Honor," will helm the film with his State Street shingle on board to produce. Tillman also directed the 2009 biodrama, "Notorious," which chronicled the life and death of the rapper known as the Notorious B.I.G., aka Christopher Wallace, as well as the 1997 Vanessa Williams/Vivica A. Fox/Nia Long dramedy, "Soul Food." His producing credits include the 2002 Ice Cube/Anthony Anderson/Cedric the Entertainer dramedy, "Barbershop," and its 2004 sequel, "Barbershop 2: Back in Business." Tillman is currently in pre-production on the actioner, "Faster," which stars Dwayne Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton.

The Variety.com article goes on to say, "McCloud, whose unproduced spec 'Abbie+Webber 4Ever,' first caught the eye of studio execs, most recently penned 'Cover Your Assets' for Lionsgate, with Jonathan Shestack and Ginny Brewer attached to produce."

McCloud is represented by WME and Energy Entertainment while Tillman is handled by CAA.
