Hong Kong Disneyland Opens
Disneyland opened in Hong Kong on Monday.
Disneyland opened its doors in Hong Kong yesterday. The opening day festivities featured Disney characters and included a lion dance, and Chinese drums and cymbals. Disney heads Michael Eisner and Bob Iger were on hand for the celebration as well as Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang and Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong. The theme park cost $3 billion dollar to construct. Land reclamation, construction and infrastructure were paid through Hong Kong residents' taxes. The Hong Kong government hopes the theme park will lure tourists into the area. Five million tourists are projected to visit the theme park in its inaugural year.
