Crowe Hopes to Reduce Charges

Russell Crowe is looking to reduce his felony assault charge for throwing a phone to a misdemeanor.

Actor Russell Crowe is trying to reduce the felony assault charge against him for throwing a phone. While in NY promoting his film The Cinderella Man last June, the Australian actor threw a phone at the concierge of the Mercer hotel, Nestor Estrada. The actor claims that he wanted to speak to his wife and was frustrated that he couldn't do so because the phone wasn't working. If the felony assault charge is not reduced, the Oscar winning actor may no longer be able to work in the United States and could face seven years in jail. Even if the charge is reduced to a misdemeanor, Crowe may still have a problem getting his visa. Crowe settled with Estrada for $100,000.
