American Music Award Nominations Announced

The American Music Award nominations were announced with Mariah leading the pack.

Mariah Carey tops the list of nominees for the American Music Awards with four nominations. Her album The Emancipation of Mimi is nominated for Best Album in both the pop/rock and soul/r&b categories. She is also nominated for Favorite Female Artist in those categories, putting her up against Kelly Clarkson and Gwen Stefani as well as Ciara and Fantasia. Three nominations went to punk band Green Day, rapper 50 Cent, and American Idol Kelly Clarkson. Green Day, Clarkson, and Carey are going up against each other for Favorite Pop/Rock Album. Destiny's Child, Tim McGraw, Gretchen Wilson, and the Black Eyed Peas are nominated for two awards each. Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, and Gretchen Wilson are vying for Favorite Country Album while Daddy Yankee, Shakira, and Luis Miguel are looking to take Favorite Latin Artist. The Breakthrough Artist award could go to The Killers, Jesse McCartney, or Sugarland. Award nominations are determined by record sales.

Cedric the Entertainer will host the American Music Awards which will air live from the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium on ABC on November 22.
